Fixing on the next horizon, but wait?

    By justateen | December 7, 2007

Had time on my hands today, so I had a look at my next possible peak to climb, a BA in English or Linguistics with OU, just for the added security later on. Had a look around, but they don’t do proper linguistics, English sounds very basic and the only thing that did interest me was a course in Modern languages with a 2/3 Spanish component. But, what I realised looking at it is that it will be just really boring after the PhD, like doing school work. And then it dawned on me, actually the PhD will be the end, my end of formal academic learning. There are no other courses beyond that, no other qualifications that I need, which would give me added security. Ok, I want to learn Spanish, but I won’t need a piece of paper and I can learn it my way, same with other things. So really, I can see the end of it all, the PhD, the working hard, the studying, it will end, and soon. Maybe I’ll need another 2 years, 3 years at max. I have been in education and constantly working very hard at all sorts of qualifications since I was 7, that’s nearly 30 years. It will just be completely and utterly weird to stop! And stop for good and so soon. Feels like a miracle really. I could just be messing about and not serious for forever thereafter. Like I said, a miracle.
